The Rainbow Boys (1973)

SYNOPSIS: Ralph Logan (Donald Pleasence) is an eccentric gold miner living in a cabin he built by the river in British Columbia. One day, he runs into Mazella, a New Yorker who arrives in town on his custom three-wheeler motorcycle. Mazella accidentally crashes into a car and Logan takes him to his friend Gladys’ house to get his injured arm treated. After sitting down to rest, the conversion of gold comes up and Logan reveals that his father had left him a gold mine called The Little Lemon far up in the hills. As a result, an unlikely bond is formed between Logan, Gladys, and Mazella and as a team, they decide to take a ride up to try and locate the mine and the riches it may hold. Along their journey, they learn more about each other’s background and recognize that they are kindred souls. Traveling on Mazella’s motorcycle, they stop by Logan’s cabin to get the map, are thrown off Indian land, and later due to Logan’s mistake, they watch their ride roll over a cliff and smash into the river below. Just when they are about to call it quits, Logan spots the Little Lemon mine. Elated, they reach the mine entrance only to have their hopes crushed when they see the mine shaft is blocked by a cave-in. Logan then recalls that his father stashed some gold under the floor of a nearby shack during one of his travels. After ripping up the floor of the shack, they discover what they have come for — a chest full of gold nuggets. Taking some lumber from the shack, they build a makeshift raft to get home, but an accident during the raft’s launch sends the chest of gold floating down the river by itself while Logan, Mazella and Gladys watch in disbelief from the shore line.
